A home from your ideas
Every log house is a genuine architectural house planned individually after the ideas of its builders. With it may be factors such as room layout, situation and relief of the plot, landscape requirements, and future neighbourhood development. With such a planning process we can exclude many of the problems that occur that can lead to unsatisfactory organization and compromises during the building and licensing procedure.
It is the special knowledge acquired in years of with this extraordinary building material which lets our architectural plans exceed the usual. Our designers have many years combined specialization in round wood building, and use this to their advantage with combining skill sets and ideas. This allows for a blend of handcrafted skills and experiences with loghomes culminating in a unique design. We handle the needs and requirements of modern architecture and unique style equally. By the use of glass, hewn stone, high-grade steel and other building material we manage those tension rich contrasts through which a log house receives its individual, modern character.
The work on the actual draft always begins with a full conversation in one of our model houses or, with the plot inspection together, on site. We include your wishes and ideas carefully and inform you about all possibilities of our design.
No desk designer: Our architects are on the construction site equally at home as at the drafting board. They continually acquire additional experiences out of every new house and with this natural building material.
Six corners for your "four walls"
We build onto natural forms for your good health. If one has prescribed the most natural way of building, it seems logical to use nature as the model for the architectural model. The ideal natural model is the honeycomb, and for our show home our architects designed on this principle. Living and functional areas merge harmoniously with each other without a division from room to room. Sleep and sanitary areas are of course separated, the fields for living, working and children offer containment but not exclusion. In such a way, kitchen, and other functional areas such as storage can be used at the most. The exterior with prominent corner half-lap joints and triangular dormers give the roof surface character.
The synthesis of extraordinary architecture, natural materials and handcrafted quality gives every log house its unique charm.
Many forms of nature are based on the hexagon - from ice crystals to honeycombs. The architectural possibilities of this design fascinated me because new and unique solutions and result again and again.
Interiors of a coulter corner house remain open with angles from 120° upwards. As a result, the inhabitants feel unconsciously a pleasant, loose room feeling.
Origin of fascination
The history of mankind is also a history of building with logs. Where protection was required against wind, weather and other rigors of nature, this almost inexhaustible material was always available. For millennia, people have "housed" themselves with wood, this natural material could be processed simply, had high insulative powers, was robust, and was easy to build with. In the infinite forests of the new world, block huts were accommodation and home for the engineers. And also today many see timber buildings as islands of security in an unknown environment. Changing ideas about value moved wood into the focal point again. It is still not to be outdone in his versatility and the sum of its building, biological, ecological and technical advantages.
The dream resulted from experience of log cabins at Canadian widths, to combine traditional timber construction engineering with individual architecture and modern living comfort for a unique symbiosis. More than ten years ago, this idea received figure and name: The log house. Enthusiasm to live for a very special kind, sound craft art, modern engineer knowledge and individual architecture are embedded houses in every individual one for ours. Every log house surrounds the fascination of the naturalness too today.
The most natural kind to build in a modern way
The wish, a home made with natural materials and traditional designs. In this case, hardly another material is as highly adaptable as wood. For temperature control and sound insulation log homes create an exclusive living environment with an especially pleasant atmosphere in all seasons. Log houses, over the years, gain attractiveness, and are today for many builders, expressions of an individual life-style.
You can see the special nature of our impressive show log home in Lumby (B.C. Canada). You find examples here for the almost unlimited organizational and imaginative ideas of our architectural team. From the first visit to our houses on this Internet page to in person tours, you should be able to see our enthusiasm and our knowledge for creating modern living spaces with tradition skills and building techniques.
We learned from nature
One needs a lot of patience to work with wood. In order to achieve the required thickness for harvest, a tree grows one hundred fifty years. Although the longer the tree grows the better, slow growth means fine yearly ring building. Even growth conditions of British Columbia, produce the types of wood (larch, spruce, Douglas, and red cedar) that are especially dense and uniform, which in turn we find are ideal for our buildings.
The harvest of the strong mature trees occurs according to the principle of renewable responsible forestry practices. British Columbia has one of the most severe forest laws, the "Forest Practices code", which ensures the protection of the ground, water, flora and fauna during forest cultivation controls.
With nature in harmony
Log houses inspire every observer from the first look. With the classical proportions and traditional architecture details, log houses became the favourite of many builders.
A house proportioned ideally improves many individual room layouts and also offers generous living spaces to a multi-person families. Special features such as lofts or roofed terrace areas enlarge the living space of our houses. Our architects can discuss with you some of these many extra features, which can add variety and uniqueness within the walls of your home.
